CAREER Quatermass were a British Progressive Rock Band from London
Active 1969 – 1971 & Quatermass ll . A related Band was Active 1994 –
1999 . The Trio consisted of Bass Player & Vocalist John Gustafson &
Keyboardist J Peter Robinson & Drums & Percussion Mick Underwood
had previously played with Ritchie Blackmore in the Outlaws . While
Gustafson had been a member of Cass & The Casanovas , The Big Three,
The Seniors & The Mersey Beats . Underwood later became Drummer
with Episode & was joined by Gustafson after Rodger Glover & Ian Gillian
left to join Deep Purple . The Band Took it’s name from Professor Bernard
Quatermass , a Fictional Scientist who had been the hero of Three Science
Fiction Serials produced by BBC Television in the 1950 , & were signed
to Harvest Records . The Group formed as a Power Trio with Hammond
Organ as the main Instrument . Their First & only Album ” Quatermass ”
( 1970 ) sold itself through , compactness , wealth of ideas , forceful Lead
Vocals & Complicated Arrangements , enriched by Pianist Robinson’s
tasteful use of Classical Strings which are on Display allows with spacious
Keyboards passages at the height in the mould of ” The Nice ” . One
Track ” Laughin’ Tackle ” Includes 16 Violins , 6 Violas , 6 Cellos & 3
Double Bass , arranged by Robinson & A Drum Solo by Underwood .
Underwood remained in close contact with Blackmore & Visited Deep
Purple in the studio while they were recording ” In Rock ” The Group
split in early 1971. Gustafson formed a New Band ” Hard Stuff “( Bullet)
with Ex Members of Atomic Rooster . The Bands Song ” The Black
Sheep Of The Family ” a cover of Chris Farlow was the First Track to be
recorded by Rainbow having been rejected for The DEEP Purple Album
” Stormbringer ” . Quatermass 11 in 1994 in 1994 Underwood & Founder
Deep Purple Member Nick Simper joined in a project Titled Quatermass
11 . Gustafson contributed two songs on their Album ” Long Road ” ( 1997
which also involved Gary Davis & Bert Foley on Guitars , with Don Airey

QUINTESSENCE.
Quintessence are a Rock Band Formed in April 1969 in Notting Hill
London England . Their style was a mixture of Jazz , Psychedelic Rock &
Progressive Rock with an influence of music from India . Years Active
1969 -1980 ( Reunion 2010 ) . Later activities in 2010 Maha Dev’s new
Quintessence were invited by Michael Eaves to play the 40th Anniversary
Glastonbury Festival where they were joined by their original Vocalist
Jones produced by John Barham Quintessence’s previous producer .
This performance was recorded & released as Rebirth Live At Glastonbury
Festival in 2011 . The Reunion of Phil Shiva Jones with Dev’s Quintessence
for 2010 for the 2010 Glastonbury Festival was documented in the BBC
one inside out programme which was aired in November 2010 . Maha
Dev’s Quintessence continued to perform sporadically in the UK. recreat –
ing ” the ” Classic ” Island Records ERA. Quintessence Sound Dev released
his First Solo Album & Jones Quintessence continues to record sporadically
Jake Milton went on to form Blurt with his brother Ted Milton . Raja -Ram
went on help create the psytrance style of Electronic Music in the 1990s
& continues to produce Electronic Music to this Day most well known for
his Involvement in shpongle a music project . Maha Dev ( Born David Codling
Died on 5th July 2019 from cancer & will be sadly missed. Quintessence
